How Often Should You Book a Private Dog Field?

There's no single right answer — it depends entirely on your dog. But here's a practical framework for thinking about frequency and building sessions into your routine.

For Most Dogs: Once or Twice a Week

For dogs without specific behavioural needs, one or two private field sessions per week alongside regular walks is an excellent balance. It provides regular off-lead freedom and exercise variety without replacing the social and sensory richness of public walks.

For Reactive Dogs: As Often as Possible

For reactive dogs, the private field may be their primary off-lead exercise environment. Three or more sessions per week can make a significant difference to their wellbeing and overall stress levels. The more decompression time they get in a trigger-free space, the lower their baseline anxiety tends to be.

For Sighthounds: Regularly

Greyhounds, Whippets, and Lurchers who can't safely be let off lead anywhere else benefit enormously from regular field sessions. Two to three times per week gives them the sprinting their bodies and minds need.

For Puppies: A Few Times During Key Training Phases

You don't need to book every week. A few key sessions during the socialisation window and early training phase — focused on recall, confidence, and off-lead experience — can be very valuable without needing to be a weekly fixture.

For Post-Surgery or Elderly Dogs: As Veterinary Guidance Allows

For dogs in recovery or with limited mobility, gentle sessions as frequently as their vet recommends can be valuable. Even a short quiet sniff-about in a safe field is enriching.

The Financial Calculation

At £10/hour, twice weekly = £80/month. For most dog owners, that's comparable to a monthly subscription service and far cheaper than many pet care alternatives. For dogs that genuinely need it, it's money very well spent.
