Booking a Private Dog Field With Multiple Dogs: What You Need to Know

One of the best things about a private field is bringing your whole pack. Here's how to make it go smoothly.

Check the Field's Dog Number Policy

Most dog fields have a maximum — typically 2 to 6 dogs depending on field size. Always check the listing before booking. If not clear, message the host before booking.

Consider Field Size for Multiple Dogs

  • 2 dogs — half an acre is workable
  • 3–4 dogs — one acre or more is comfortable
  • 5+ dogs — go as large as you can find

Managing the Double Gate With Multiple Dogs

  • Keep all dogs on leads through both gates
  • Don't release any dog until all dogs are fully inside and both gates are secured
  • Take an extra moment in the airlock to calm excited dogs before opening the inner gate

Know Your Dogs' Dynamics

Most dogs who live or walk together regularly will be fine. Be more thoughtful if the dogs don't know each other well, there's a significant size difference, one dog is in season, or any dog has resource guarding history.

For Professional Dog Walkers

  • Confirm the field allows commercial dog walking groups
  • Book enough field size for the group
  • Ensure you have appropriate business insurance covering group walks
