What to Expect When You Book a Dog Walking Field by the Hour

Never booked a private dog walking field before? You're in for a treat — and so is your dog. Here's exactly what the experience looks like from booking to the moment you leave, so you know exactly what to expect.

Booking Is Simple

Through SnoopPaws, booking a field is straightforward. Search your location, browse available fields, check the photos and reviews, pick a time slot that suits you, and confirm. Most fields offer hourly slots throughout the day — some from early morning until late evening.

You'll receive a booking confirmation with all the details you need — the address, access instructions, and any specific notes from the host.

Arriving at the Field

Most private dog fields operate with self-check-in — typically a lockbox or keypad entry, with the access code sent with your booking confirmation. No need to meet a host or ring a doorbell. You turn up, enter the code, and the field is yours.

Parking is usually just outside the field entrance. Check the listing for specific parking details before you arrive.

The Double Gate Entry

Well-run dog fields use a double gate airlock system — two gates with a small holding area between them. This is specifically designed to prevent dogs bolting when you open the outer gate.

The process: enter through the outer gate and close it behind you, then open the inner gate into the field. Both gates should be firmly closed before you let your dog off the lead.

Your Session Begins

Once inside and both gates are secure — lead off. The field is fully enclosed and exclusively yours for the duration of your booking. No other dogs, no other people, no distractions you don't want.

What happens next is entirely up to you and your dog. Most dogs immediately go into full exploration mode — nose down, full sprint, absolute joy. It genuinely never gets old to watch.

What's Usually Provided

Facilities vary by field, but most good listings on SnoopPaws include:

  • ✅ Fresh water for dogs
  • ✅ Poo bags and a bin
  • ✅ Seating for owners
  • ✅ Clear field rules on signage

Some premium fields also offer agility equipment, obstacle courses, or even paddling pools in summer. Check the listing details to see what's included.

During Your Session

The field is yours for the time you've booked — typically an hour. Use it however you and your dog enjoy most. Training, fetch, free running, or simply letting them sniff around while you have five minutes of genuine peace. There's no pressure and no rush until your slot ends.

Leaving the Field

When your time is up, lead your dog back up, exit through the double gate (closing both behind you), and that's it. Most fields ask you to take any litter with you and leave the space as you found it for the next booking.

Tips for Your First Visit

  • 🐾 Bring water if the field listing doesn't confirm it's provided
  • 🐾 Arrive a couple of minutes early to read any signage before letting your dog off
  • 🐾 Don't rush the double gate — take it calmly and your dog will too
  • 🐾 Leave a review afterwards — it helps other dog owners and supports great hosts
